The Cardiovascular Imaging Unit is the multimodality unit that follows the guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), being a benchmark in technological advances.
In addition, we frequently collaborate with industry, having access to innovative techniques such as the automatic quantification of mitral regurgitation or the application of artificial intelligence in the acquisition and analysis of cardiac images.
In terms of facilities, the Unit has 9 high-end echocardiography equipment with the possibility of three-dimensional echocardiography, with image fusion, fluoroscopy and computerized tomography, with artificial intelligence for automatic measurements of cardiac volume and myocardial deformation.
In collaboration with the Department of Radiology, the Cardiovascular Imaging Unit has access to cardiac magnetic resonance with 4 equipment (3 1.5T and one 3T) to perform functional and perfusion studies. In addition, it also accesses computed tomography to perform anatomical studies of structural and coronary pathology.
Finally, together with the Department of Nuclear Medicine, the Unit has access to nuclear cardiology techniques including SPECT and PET/CT, providing multimodal service to numerous specialties that require precise diagnosis of cardiac pathologies.
More than 16,000 transthoracic echocardiograms, more than 1,000 transesophageal studies, more than 300 stress echocardiograms, 800 cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and 500 computed tomography studies are performed annually.
