ICREC Research Lab

The ICREC (Heart Failure and Cardiac Regeneration) Research Lab is a multidisciplinary research group with the aim of investigating new treatments and diagnostic tools for cardiovascular diseases from different perspectives. It opened its doors in January 2002 and, in 2010, ICREC moved its activity to the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP).

Under the direction of Dr. Bayés-Genís, its current research activity is coordinated by Dr. Carolina Gálvez Montón and Dr. Santiago Roura Ferrer and currently, the ICREC team is made up of multidisciplinary researchers, doctoral students, laboratory technicians and administrative support staff. The group’s research activity is divided into the following areas:

The MyoCare Lab has more than 20 years of experience in the study and application of new biological treatments for myocardial infarction, mainly through cell therapy, cardiovascular tissue engineering, adipose tissue graft transfer and extracellular vesicles. From a translational point of view, the ICREC laboratory’s efforts in regenerative medicine have achieved pioneering studies in humans such as the adiFLAP (AGTP I) clinical trial (NCT01473433), the AGTP II clinical trial (NCT02798276) and the PERISCOPE clinical trial (NCT03798353).

Recently, the MyoCare Lab has opened new lines of research on cardiac organoids, non-invasive monitoring of vascular endoprostheses, electrophysiology, new pharmacological treatments for heart failure and their associated mechanisms of action, immunotherapy with chimeric antigen receptors and cardiometabolism.

The Area of Support for Clinical Trials (ASAC) has as its objective to provide cross-cutting support to clinical trials conducted by the iCor Germans Trias for the study of the diseases cardiovascular and the improvement of their treatments.

The Cardiovascular Precision Medicine Platform (PMPCV) has as its objective to optimize the value of biomarkers for the improvement of the diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring, and guidance of treatment in patients with heart failure or other cardiovascular diseases.
