Experimental Models - CMCiB
The Centre for Comparative Medicine and Bioimaging (CMCiB) has recently been opened in IGTP. It provides 4,500 m2 for research, support and training activities, and includes 4 large animal operating rooms, supported by 3T MRI and a catheterization laboratory, as well as echocardiography, laparoscopy, endoscopy, long stabling and post-processing facilities.

Our team is specialized in the experimental animal model of myocardial infarction. Specifically, the acute myocardial infarct is done by the ligation of the anterior descent coronary artery in mice and circunflex artery in pigs. Moreover, we also perform chronic infarcts in the swine model by the intraluminal implantation of coils.
These models allow an extensive study of the mollecular mechanisms in the myocardial infarction and search for new therapeutic strategies based on cell therapy and tissue engineering.
Small animal model: mouse.
First panel: cell therapy.
Second panel: tissue engineering.
Medium size animal model: pig.
First panel: Tissue ingenieering in acute myocardial infarct in the swine model.
Second panel: Coil inplantation for chronic myocardial infarction swine model.
