ICREC Group
The ICREC group (Insuficiencia Cardiaca y REgeneración Cardiaca-Heart Failure and Cardiac Regeneration) is a research group which in 2002 published the first evidence of the regenerative capacity of human heart by studying the chimerism and microchimerism phenomena of the heart. The group leads basic and clinical research areas on cardiac stem cell therapy from different biological origins and tissue engineering with biocompatible polymers to develop bioactive 3D-constructs with a clear translational view.
The group coordinator is Dr. Antoni Bayes-Genis, Professor of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Head of the Department of Cardiology. He has published in leading journals including New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation, JACC and European Heart Journal.

The research team has extensive experience in animal models of myocardial infarction, both in small animal model (murine) and big (porcine).
In the last years we have developed the first clinical trials in the field of cardiac regeneration for which the Clinical Trial Support Area (ASAC) has been consolidated. You may find further information in the AGTP and PERISCOPE sections
In addition, a Precision Medicine Platform has been consolidated (PMP). You may find further information in the cardiac biomarkers section.
